Chapter 4 lesson 3/4

chapter 4 lesson 3/4 8 period

TermDefinition
Cell cycle The regular sequence of growth and division that cells undergo
Interphase Stage of the cell cycle that takes place before cell division occurS
Replication The process by which a cell makes a copy of the DNA and its nucleus
Mitosis The stage of the cell cycle which the cells nucleus divides into two new nuclei and one copy of the DNA into each daughter
chromosomes A double rod of condensed chromatin contains DNA that carry genetic information
cytokinesis The final stage of the cell cycle in which the cell cytoplasm divides distributing the organelles into each of the two new cell
What takes place in the three stages of the cell cycle The cell grows and makes a copy of its DNA, spindle fibers form and the nucleus breaks down then the chromosomes lineup across the center of the cell the centromeres split the chromosomes, begin to stretch out and lose their rod like appearanc, cell split
Draw and label a cell cycle See notes
Explain DNA replication how it accounts for the way it copies itself The cell grows mature size. It makes a copy of DNA and prepared to divide into two cells. Two cylindrical structures called centrioles are also copied
Selectively permeable A property of cell membrane that allows some substances to pass throughout others cannot
PassIve transport The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy
Diffusion The process by which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
osmosis The diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane
Active transport The movement materials through cell membrane using cellular energy
How materials move in and out of cell Passive and active transport
The different types of membrane transport and how they work Passive transport is where it passesthrough without requiring any energy, an active transport is it requires a cells energy to move through materials across the cell
Explain the difference between fluctuated diffusion And diffusion
The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy Passive transport

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
