Epiphyseal Line Remnant of the growth plate
Metaphysis contains the growth plate in children.
Medullary Cavity Contains yellow bone marrow
Yellow Bone Marrow Stores fat
Periosteum Contains blood vessels, nerves, osteoblasts.
Articular Cartilage Reduces friction in joints.
Spongy Bone Contains trabeculae.
Trabeculae Lattice-like network within spongy bone.
Red Bone Marrow Produces blood cells.
Compact Bone Organized into osteons.
Osteon Fundamental unit of compact bone.
Haversian Canal Contains blood vessels and nerves
Osteocyte Maintains bone tissue.
Osteoblast Bone-building cell.
Osteoclast Breaks down bone tissue
Canaliculi Allows communication and nutrient transfer between osteocyte
Lamellae Concentric rings of bone matrix
Endosteum Contains osteoblasts and osteoclasts.
Lacuna Small spaces housing osteocytes.
Blood Vessels Supply nutrients and remove waste in bone tissues.
Arterioles Small arteries bringing oxygenated blood into bone
Venules Small veins carrying deoxygenated blood away from bone
