| Term | Definition |

| Axial Muscles | Muscles that support and move the head, neck, vertebral column, and trunk; they also assist in respiration. |
| Appendicular Muscles | Muscles that control movement of the upper and lower limbs and stabilize the shoulder and pelvic girdles. |
| Alveoli | Tiny air sacs in the lungs where the oxygen enters the blood and co2 is removed during breathing. |
| Immune Response | The body's defense mechanism involving white blood cells, antibodies, and other processes that fight pathogens. |
| Lymphatic System | A network of vessels and organs that returns excess fluid to the bloodstream and also helps defend against infections. |
| Endocrine System | A system of glands that release hormones into the bloodstream to regulate metabolism, growth, stress, and reproduction. |
| Central Nervous System | This is the brain and spinal cord. Being responsible for processing information and coordinating responses. |
| Autonomic Nervus System | The part of the PNS that controls your involuntary functions like heart rate, digestion, and breathing. |
| Neuron | A specialized nerve cell that sends and receives electrical impulses to allow rapid communication in the body. |
| Neuroglia | Supporting cells of the nervous system that protect neurons, maintain the environment, and help with repair. |
