What is meiosis? two successive cell divisions with no replication of genetic material between them
What is crossing over? exchange of DNA between non-sister chromatids
What is chiasmata? sites of crossing over during prophase
What is independent assortment new assortment of maternal and paternal chromosomes
When does independent assortment occur? happens when homologous replicated chromosomes separate in Anaphase 1
What is the synaptonemal complex? how homologous chromosomes are held together
What are the three main purpose of meiosis? produce haploid gametes, combine through fertilization to create diploid offspring, genetic information inherited is re-arranged in your gametes
How were F1 treated in Mendel's experiment? self-pollinated
What did F2 determine? had both yellow and green color, led to law of segregation
What is the law of segragation? results in 3:1 ratio of traits, 3:1 phenotypes but 1:2:1 genotype
