temperate refers to an area that has mild temperatures
deciduous refers to a tree that loses its leaves in cold weather
tropical rainforest a warm, humid and rainy biome located near the equator.
emergent layer highest layer made up of the tallest trees and receives the most sunlight
canopy layer made up of the crowns of trees growing closely together
understory layer made up of young trees and leafy plants
forest floor the bottom layer with few plants and many decomposers
grasslands the temperate biome found between deserts and forests and covered mostly with grass
savanna a grassland biome found close to the equator
dessert a biome that receives less than 10 in. of precipitation each year and usually has extreme temperatures.
succulent a plant that can store water in its stem or leaves
Aquatic biome all areas where life exits in water, largest biome
salinity amount of salt dissolved in the water now aquatic biomes are characterized
Marine biomes a name of a saltwater biome. The larges marine biome is the ocean.
Bioluminescent describes an organism that produces its own light
