Nervous System

Cerebrum bulk of brain that controls conscious actions and sensory interpretation
Cerebellum "controls balance, posture, and coordination
Brain Stem connects brain to spine + controls basic like function
Pons part of brain stem + helps regulate sleep, breathing, and communication in brain
Medulla Oblongata controls vital functions (heartbeat, breathing, blood pressure)
Parietal Lobe processes touch, temperature, pain, spatial awareness
Occipital Lobe vision
Frontal Lobe decision making, planning, voluntary movement
Temporal Lobe processes hearing, language, and memory
Motor Cortex voluntary muscle movements
Sensory Cortex receives and processes info from senses
Corpus Callosum bundle of fibers connecting left and right hemispheres
Pituitary Gland "master gland" that releases hormones controlling growth and other glands
Thalamus "relay station" sending sensory info to correct parts of brain
Hypothalamus balances the body (hunger, thirst, temp)
Hippocampus forms new memories and learning
