| Term | Definition |

| Cerebrum | Largest part of the brain; controls thinking, learning, memory, and voluntary movement. |
| Cerebellum | Coordinates balance, posture, and smooth, controlled movements. |
| Brain Stem | Connects the brain to the spinal cord; controls basic life functions like breathing and heartbeat. |
| Pons | Part of the brain stem; helps with breathing, sleep, and communication between different brain areas. |
| Medulla Oblongata | Controls automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. |
| Parietal Lobe | Processes touch, temperature, pain, and spatial awareness. |
| Occipital Lobe | Responsible for vision. |
| Frontal Lobe | Controls decision-making, planning, problem-solving, and voluntary movement. |
| Temporal Lobe | Handles hearing, language understanding, and memory. |
| Motor Cortex | Controls voluntary muscle movements. |
| Sensory Cortex (Somatosensory Cortex) | Receives and processes information about touch, pressure, temperature, and pain. |
| Corpus Callosum | Thick band of nerve fibers that connects the two halves of the brain and lets them communicate. |
| Pituitary Gland | The “master gland”; releases hormones that control growth, metabolism, and other glands. |
| Thalamus | Relays sensory information to the correct parts of the brain; like a “switchboard.” |
| Hypothalamus | Helps control hunger, thirst, body temperature, and hormones. |
| Hippocampus | Essential for forming new memories and learning. |
| Central Nervous System | Contains brain and spinal cord |
| Peripheral Nervous System | Contains everything but brain and spinal. |
