Define - Divine Rights The belief that a monarch's authority to rule comes directly from God, not from the consent of the people.
Define - Absolute Monarchy A form of government where supreme authority and sovereignty are vested entirely in a single person, the monarch.
What did Louis XIV do? He ruled France for 72 years. He was an absolute monarch. He has the longest reign in European history.
What is the importance of the palace of Versailles? The palace of Versailles served as a political, social, and cultural center of France during the height of absolute monarchy.
What is the importance of Peter the great of Russia? He modernized and westernized Russia. He transformed it from a traditional isolated state, into a major European empire.
What is the importance of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette? They were the final monarchs of France whose ineffective rule, extravagant spending, and resistance to reform highlighted the deep social inequality of the time. They were overthrown and executed by guillotine in 1793,
What is the importance of the Estates General during the French Revolution? It's failure to solve France's financial crisis and the resulting conflict over voting rights directly triggered the French Revolution.
