| Term | Definition |

| Cerebrum | The largest part of the brain; responsible for thinking, memory, emotions, decision-making, movement, and your senses |
| Cerebellum | A smaller, rounded structure at the back of the brain that controls balance, coordination, and fine muscle movements |
| Brain Stem | The lower part of the brain that connects to the spinal cord; it controls basic life functions such as breathing, heart rate, and digestion |
| Pons | A part of the brain stem that helps relay messages between different parts of the brain and plays a role in breathing, sleep, and facial expressions |
| Medulla Oblongata | The lowest part of the brain stem; it controls vital automatic functions like heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, and swallowing |
| Parietal Lobe | A region of the cerebrum responsible for processing touch, temperature, pain, and spatial awareness |
| Occipital Lobe | The part of the cerebrum at the back of the head responsible for vision and visual processing. |
| Frontal Lobe | The front region of the cerebrum involved in decision-making, planning, problem-solving, personality, and voluntary movement. |
| Temporal Lobe | A region of the cerebrum located near the ears, responsible for hearing, memory, and language understanding. |
| Motor Cortex | A strip of the frontal lobe that controls voluntary muscle movements. |
| Sensory Cortex | A strip of the parietal lobe that receives and processes sensory information from the body, such as touch and pressure. |
| Corpus Callosum | A thick band of nerve fibers that connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain, allowing them to communicate. |
| Pituitary Gland | A small hormone-producing gland at the base of the brain often called the “master gland” because it controls many other glands in the body. |
| Thalamus | A relay center for the brain that processes and sends sensory information to the appropriate parts of the cerebrum. |
| Hypothalamus | A small but important region that regulates body temperature, hunger, thirst, sleep, and hormone release; it helps maintain homeostasis. |
| Hippocampus | A curved structure within the temporal lobe involved in forming and storing new memories and learning. |
