| Term | Definition |

| cerebrum | The largest part of the brain; responsible for thinking, memory, emotions, decision-making, movement, and your senses. |
| Cerebellum | Controls balance, coordination, and smooth movement. |
| Brain Stem | Connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls basic life functions like breathing, heart rate, and digestion. |
| Pons | Part of the brain stem that helps with breathing, sleep, and sending messages between different parts of the brain. |
| Medulla Oblongata | Controls vital automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. |
| Parietal Lobe | Processes touch, temperature, pain, and helps with spatial awareness (knowing where things are in space). |
| Occipital Lobe | Handles vision — everything you see is processed here. |
| Frontal Lobe | Responsible for planning, decision-making, personality, problem-solving, and voluntary movement. |
| Temporal Lobe | Processes hearing, language, and forming memories. |
| Motor Cortex | Controls voluntary movements (like raising your hand or kicking a ball). |
| Sensory Cortex | Receives and interprets information from your senses — mainly touch. |
| Corpus Callosum | A bundle of nerve fibers that connects the left and right sides of the brain so they can communicate. |
| Pituitary Gland | A small endocrine gland that releases hormones controlling growth, puberty, metabolism, and other hormonal processes. |
| Thalamus | The brain’s “relay station” — sends sensory information to the correct part of the brain to be processed. |
| Hypothalamus | Controls hunger, thirst, body temperature, sleep cycles, and works with the pituitary gland to regulate hormones. |
| Hippocampus | Crucial for forming and storing new memories and learning. |
