Digestion Stack
| Term | Definition |

| Upper GI | Oral Cavity |
| Pharynx | Throat; passage for food and air. |
| Epiglottis | Flap that covers the airway so food doesn’t go into lungs. |
| Esophagus | Tube that moves food to the stomach. |
| Stomach | Organ that churns food and adds acid/enzymes. |
| Small Intestine | Main site of nutrient absorption. |
| Duodenum | First part; mixes food with bile and enzymes. |
| Jejunum | Middle part; absorbs most nutrients. |
| Ileum | Last part; absorbs what's left (especially B12, bile salts). |
| Cecum | First pouch of large intestine. |
| Large Intestine | Absorbs water and forms stool. |
| Ascending Colon | Goes up right side; absorbs water. |
| Transverse Colon | Goes across; continues water absorption. |
| Descending Colon | Goes down left side; stores waste. |
| Sigmoid Colon | S-shaped; leads to rectum. |
| Rectum | Stores stool before release. |
| Anus | Opening where stool exits. |
| Salivary Glands | Make saliva to start digestion. |
| Teeth | Break down food mechanically. |
| Tongue | Helps chew, swallow, and taste. |
| Uvula | Prevents food from entering nasal cavity. |
| Liver | Makes bile; processes nutrients and detoxifies. |
| Pancreas | Makes digestive enzymes and insulin. |
| Appendix | Small pouch; minor immune function. |
| Upper Esophageal | Opens to let food enter esophagus. |
| Lower Esophageal (Cardiac) | Prevents stomach acid from coming back up. |
| Pyloric | Controls food leaving stomach into small intestine. |
