Standing Waves

TermDefinition
Node A point on the string that never moves during vibration.
Antinode A point on the string that moves with maximum amplitude.
Mode number (m) The number of loops or segments in the standing wave.
Fundamental frequency The lowest frequency at which the string vibrates, forming one loop.
Wavelength The distance over which the wave repeats itself, on a string
Reflection When waves bounce back off an obstacle
Length The size of the column in which the standing wave occurs
Standing waves A wave that is trapped and cannot move.
