Interaction of Living Things

TermDefinition
Abiotic A nonliving part of an ecosystem (air, light, soil, temperature, water, rocks, etc)
Biotic A living thing in an ecosystem (plants, animals, fungi and bacteria, etc.)
Habitat A place where organisms live - provides food, water, shelter and space
Predator An animal that hunts other animals for food
Prey Animals that are eaten by other animals.
Invasive species An organism that is introduced to a new ecosystem and causes harm
Population The number of organisms of the same species that live in a particular geographic area.
Community All of the populations in a given area that interact together
Organism One living thing, an individual
