Who was George Washingon? An honest leader and hero of the revolutionary war.
What is the electoral college? a body of electors who represent the people’s vote in choosing the president
Who was the first "first lady"? Martha Washington
What is a precedent? Is an action or decision that later serves as an example
What did the Judiciary act of 1789 do? created three levels of federal courts and defined their powers
Who was Alexander Hamilton? Good with finances from a young age and served as Washington’s aid
National Debt? Money owed by the United States
What is a bond? Are certificates of debt that carry a promise to buy back at a higher price
What is a speculator? People who buy low and hope to sell at a higher price
Who Thought Hamilton’s idea of bonds cheated bondholders Thomas Jeffeson
What is loose construction? Means that the federal government can take reasonable actions that the Constitution does not specifically forbid
What is strict construction? federal government should do only what the Constitution specifically says it can do
What did the first national bank do? Played an important role in making the economy more stable
What was Washington's vision for the United States? Unity, Justice, Liberty
Did Washington want to become the president? Not really, he became president because so much of his country wished him to be.
What was the purpose of the national bank? To pay off war debts and stabilize the economy
What was a key point of Washington's Farewell Address? Keeping states united, having prosperity, and it also set the precedent of term limits
Why did Hamilton believe that taxation was needed? to pay off war debts and raise money for the national government.
Did Congress and Federalists support or not support Hamilton's Financial plans? They supported
How did the electoral College effect George Washington's election? It counted the votes from the states and elected him unanimously
What city served as the first capital of the United States? New York City
Did Jefferson want more power to the states or the federal government? He wished for the states to have more power.
