COLONIES lands controlled by other countries that are far away
Monarchy a type of government where a king or queen is the leader
Taxes extra money paid on items purchased. The money goes to the government
Enslaved forced to work for someone else for no pay & without the freedom to leave
Plantations Very large farms
Free Speech right or freedom to say what you want without being punished by the government
Cash Crop Crops grown to be sold
Great Britain Ruler was King George lll
King George ruler over American Colonies - The 13 Colonies
The 13 colonies are made up of New England Colonies, The Middle Colonies, The Southern Colonies
New England Colonies Fishing & Fur Trading
The Middle Colonies Farming & raising farm animals
The Southern Colonies Growing Cash Crops (Rice & Cotton)
Colonist Had to pay taxes on things like sugar, paint, newspapers, glass, & tea
Colonist thought tax was unfair
Colonist stopped buying those goods
Colonist The government took away the tax
TO KNOW: Africans who were brought to the colonies were enslaved & FORCED to work on plantations, small farms, or a domestic servants.
TO KNOW: Enslaved people did not have rights like others
TO KNOW: PHILIS WHEATLEY was an enslaved African who wrote poems that discussed famous people and events.
TO KNOW: ANNE HUTCHINSON held meetings where she talked about stories or her faith. This was not common because at the time men could be religious leaders (FREE SPEECH).
