Chapter 4 lesson 2 8 period
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cell wall | Origin layer of nonliving material that surround the cells of plants and some organisms |
| Cell membrane | A structure that controls, which substances can enter or leave the cell |
| Nucleus | A cell structure that includes nucleic acids the chemical instructions that direct all the cells activities |
| Organelle | A tiny self structure that carries a specific function within the cell |
| Ribosome | Small grain like straight and the cytoplasm of a cell were proteins are made |
| cytoplasm | the region between the cell membrane in the nucleus and organisms with out a nucleus, the region located inside the cell membrane |
| Mitochondria | Rod shaped cell structure that converts energy in food molecules to energy the cell can use to carry out its functions |
| Endoplasmic reticulum | a cell structure that forms a mazes of passageways which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of the cell to another |
| Golgi apparatus | A structure in a cell that receives proteins and other newly form materials from endoplasmic reluctant packages them and distributes them to other parts of the cell |
| Vacuole | A sac inside a cell, that acts as a storage area |
| lysosome | small round cell structure that contains chemicals that breakdown large food particles into smaller ones |
| multicellular | Consisting of many cells |
| Unicellular | Made of a single cell |
| tissue | a group of similar cells that performs a Specific function |
| Organ | a body structure that is composed of different kinds of tissuesthat work together |
| Organ system | An organ system is a group of organs working together |
| Specialized cells | They do a specific function |
| division of labor | |
| What’s inside the nucleus | a nuclear envelope the chromatin and pores and the nucleolus |
| What’s the difference between animal and plant cell structures | a plant has one vacuole they have a chloroplast And a cell wall |
| Describe what the er does for ribosome | They carry them to another part of the cell |
| Where ribosomes are made and why they’re so important | ribosomes act like a factory to create proteins |
