Genome All of a organism genetic material
Characteristic’s Characteristics are traits or qualities
Traits A form of a characteristic
Chromosomes / chromatin A condensed , thread like structure made up of DNA and proteins
Histones The protein in chromosomes that binds to DNA and helps it to coil up.
Coding DNA DNA that carries instructions for building proteins.
Non Coding DNA DNA that does not carry instructions for building proteins but has other functions.
Gene
Locus
A small section of DNA that contains the code for a protein.
the specific, fixed location of a gene or other DNA sequence on a chromosome.
Gamete A sex cell that contains half the full set of chromosomes. In humans, the female gamete is the egg and the male gamete is the sperm.
Fertilisation The fusion of the nuclei of the egg and the sperm to form a zygote.
Nuclear inheritance Most of the genetic material passed from parents to offspring is located on the chromosomes in the nucleus of the cell.
Non Nuclear inheritance
is the inheritance of traits from the DNA in organelles outside of the nucleus.
