QuestionAnswer
What is a symphysis? A type of joint characterized by a pad or disk made up of fibrocartilage located between two bones.
What are the functional classifications of joints? Synarthroses (immovable), amphiarthroses (slightly movable), and diarthroses (freely movable)
What are sutures and where are they located. They are a type of joint made of fibrous tissue located only between bones of the skull.
What is contractility? The ability of muscle fibers to shorten and contract in order to pull on bones to allow for body movement.
What are two differentiating characteristics of muscle cells? Muscle cells have higher amounts of mitochondria. They have sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) instead of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) like other cells.
What is the resting membrane potential of a neuron? -70mV
What is a sodium- potassium pump Channels found within cell membranes that actively pump sodium ions (Na+) out of the neuron and potassium ions (K+) into the neuron.
What is pulmonary gas exchange? The gas exchange that occurs between blood capillaries and alveoli that allow deoxygenated blood full of CO2 and 02 from lungs to diffuse down its concentration gradient. This exchange allows O2 to enter the blood and CO2 to leave the blood.
What is Hemoglobin? Hemoglobin is a plasma protein found in blood that absorbs and attaches to oxygen molecules in order to allow a higher amount of gases to enter the plasma.
What is enterogastric reflex? A response by the vagus nerve that signals the stomach to inhibit or stop gastric peristalsis from the stomach to small intestines usually in response to an excess amount of food.
