pentameter a line of verse with five metrical feet, common in poetry.

maintain to keep or hold something in its current state.
obtain to get or hold something.
retain to keep or hold on to.
stustain to support or hold something up.
detain to hold back or delay.
entertain originally, to hold someone's attention or keep them engaged.
abstain to hold back or refrain from something.
attain to reach or gain something (hold onto a goal).
pertain to relate to or be connected to (what something holds relevance to).
