| absolute value | the distance of a number from zero on a number line, regardless of direction, always resulting in a non-negative (positive or zero) value |
| additive inverse property | for any number, its opposite (its additive inverse) is the value that, when added to the original number, results in a sum of zero |
| additive inverses | the value you add to it to get zero, essentially changing its sign |
| distributive property | multiplying a sum of two or more numbers by another number is the same as multiplying each number inside the parentheses by the outside number and then adding the products |
| multiplication identity property | any number multiplied by 1 results in the original number |
| multiplication property of zero | any number multiplied by zero always results in zero |
| opposites | the number on the opposite side of zero on a number line that is the same distance away |
| order of operations | a set of rules that determines the correct sequence for evaluating a mathematical expression with multiple operations |
