absolute value the distance of a number from zero on a number line, regardless of direction, always resulting in a non-negative (positive or zero) value
additive inverse property for any number, its opposite (its additive inverse) is the value that, when added to the original number, results in a sum of zero
additive inverses the value you add to it to get zero, essentially changing its sign
distributive property multiplying a sum of two or more numbers by another number is the same as multiplying each number inside the parentheses by the outside number and then adding the products
multiplication identity property any number multiplied by 1 results in the original number
multiplication property of zero any number multiplied by zero always results in zero
opposites the number on the opposite side of zero on a number line that is the same distance away
order of operations a set of rules that determines the correct sequence for evaluating a mathematical expression with multiple operations
