producer an organism that makes its own food for energy
consumer an organism that cannot make its own food
decomposer an organism that gets its energy by breaking down wastes and dead organisms
predator a consumer that hunts and eats another animal to get energy
prey an organism that is eaten by another organism
competition the struggle of organisms for the same limited resources
environment all of the conditions surrounding an organism
resources available supplies of food, water, sunlight, and space in an environment
conservation an attempt to preserve or protect an environment from harmful changes
nonnative species new plants and animals that people may bring into an ecosystem
pollution any substance that damages the environment
