Physiology- Tanvi Bassi

TermDefinition
Nerve impulse A small electrical signal that travels along a nerve to send messages in the body.
Vagus A long nerve that helps control the heart, lungs, and digestive system.
Diaphragm A large muscle under the lungs that helps you breathe in and out.
Permissiveness When one hormone allows another hormone to work better.
Hemodynamics The study of how blood flows through the heart and blood vessels.
Lymphotoxin A chemical made by certain immune cells that helps destroy harmful cells.
Spleen An organ that filters blood, stores extra blood, and helps fight infection.
Bicarbonate A substance in the blood that helps control and balance pH.
Alveolar pressure The air pressure inside the tiny air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs.
Deglutition The medical term for swallowing.
