| Ligand-Gated Ion Channel | A protein channel that opens when a neurotransmitter binds to it, letting ions to enter or exit the neuron. |
| Action Potential | A fast, electrical signal produced by neurons when voltage-gated sodium and potassium channels open and close. |
| Parasympathetic System | The "rest" part of the ANS that slows the heart rate and promotes digestion. |
| Hemoglobin | A protein in the red blood cells that binds oxygen for transport throughout the body. |
| Hormone | A chemical messenger that is released by the endocrine glands that travel trough the blood to the affected target tissues. |
| Alveoli | Small air sacs in the lungs where oxygen and co2 exchange occurs. |
