metronidazole Main takeaway= check stool for parasites, give oral form with food, watch for vision problems, tell patient NOT to drink alcohol during therapy
estrogen receptor ( raloxifene) Main takeaway= prvents bone loss and spinal fractures, may increase tendency for DVT, myocardial infarcts, uterine bleeding, and breast abnormalties, do not have to take with food
acyclovir Main takeaway= cover all lesions/ use gloves. IV acyclovir is reserved for life threatening infections in which hospitalization is required; nephrotoxicity has been onserved with high dose IV use
Valacyclovir ( Valtrex) and Famciclovir for HSV Main Takeaway= therapy for initial outbreak ; often prescribed for 7-10 days ; s/e= headache and fatigue
Miconazole Nitrate ( Monistat) Main Takaway=interferes with fungal DNA replication, watch for allergic reactions; can be used through menstual cycle; s/e= burning and irritation
Gardasil Main Takeaway= reduces the incidence of cervical cancer resulting from hpv infection. Vaccination is reccomended between ages 11 -12 in male and female adolscents . Could be given as early as 9. Three injections are given over 6 m/2nd=2m after/3=6m after
Sildenafil Main Takeaway = oral; given for ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION; 50 mg reccomended 1 hour before sex( could be taken 30 min to 4 hrs before); could cause hypotension
Euproide (lupron) Main Takeaway = manages fibroid tumors ; causes levels of estrogen and progesterone to FALL, resulting in meopausal state
Tamoxifen Main Takeaway= an antestrogen drug , blocks the estrogen recptor sites of malignant cells, and inhibits the growth - stimulating effects of estrogen. 1st line treatment for metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
anasrozole Main Takeaway = aromatase inhibitor drug, used to treat ADVANCED breast cancer in postmenopausal women with disease progression
Epoetin ( procrit) Main Takeaway= helpful in raising erythrocyte counts to help correct anemia
Filgrastim ( neupogen) Main Takeaway= raises leukocyte count, can combat the threat of infection that accompanies bone marrow suppression.
Tetracycline Main Takeaway= given to pts who have an allergy to penicillin
Doxycycline Main Takeaway= for chlamydial infections; dosage= 100 mg 2x a day, given to pts who have multiple sexual partners.
Azithromycin Main Takeaway= given for chlamydial infections , 1g single dose , could be given for cervicitis .
Ofloxacin Main Takeaway= fiven for chlamydial infections , dosage= 300mg 2x a day, also given for pyelonephritis,
Phenothiazines Main Takeaway= ordered for chemotherapy pts. prevents or lessens nausea and vomitting
