QuestionAnswer
Neurons communicate with one another via action potentials
An action potential is a sudden brief change in the distribution of charge on the two sides of a nerve cell membrane
A change in the movement of ions across the membrane caused by some stimuli will change the membrane potential, and a particular suite of changes in the membrane potential, called the Action Potential
An action potential is caused by the flow of electrically charged particles (ions, such as Na+, K+, Cl-, Ca++) through special structures in the membrane, called ion channels or ion pumps
A typical neuron has three main parts: a cell body (soma), dendrites, and axons.
Multipolar neurons which have one axon and multiple dendrites
Bipolar neurons with a single axon and a single dendrite
Unipolar which have no dendrites and possess a single axon.
The energy for this and other cellular activities is supplied by ATP (adenosine triphosphate) synthesized by mitochondria.
A major function of the lymphatic system is to drain body fluids and return them to the bloodstream

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
