| Thermoreceptors | Activated by changes in temperature |
| Chemoreceptors | Activated by either the amount or the changing concentration of certain chemicals |
| Mechanoreceptors | Activated by mechanical stimuli that in some way "deform" or change the position of the receptor |
| Retina | Is the incomplete innermost coat of the eyeball-incomplete in that it has no anterior position |
| Refraction | Is the deflection, or bending, of light rays |
| Tropic Hormones | Are hormones that have a stimulating effect on other endocrine glands |
| Luteinizing Hormone | Stimulates the formation and activity of the corpus luteum of the ovary |
| Aldosterone | Causes increased reabsorption of sodium which causes increased water retention |
| Insulin | Produced by beta cells, tends to promote the movement of glucose, amino acids and fatty acids out of the blood and into tissue cells |
| Gonads | are the primary sex organs in the male testes and in the female ovaries |
