Anatomy

QuestionAnswer
What are the main components of blood? Plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
What is the primary function of red blood cells? To transport oxygen and carbon dioxide using hemoglobin.
What is hematopoiesis? The process of producing blood cells in the red bone marrow.
What is the function of white blood cells (leukocytes)? To defend the body against infection, pathogens, and foreign substances.
What structure is known as the “pacemaker” of the heart? The sinoatrial node.
What is the function of the heart valves? To ensure blood flows in only one direction through the heart.
What vessels carry blood away from the heart? Arteries.
What vessels carry blood toward the heart? Veins
What is the main function of the lymphatic system? to return excess fluid to the bloodstream and help defend the body against disease.
What is lymph? A clear fluid formed from excess interstitial fluid that enters lymphatic vessels.
