QuestionAnswer
What is the normal blood pH range? 7.35-7.45, which keeps enzymes functioning and prevents cell damage.
How do the lungs regulate pH? By adjusting breathing rate to control CO2 which directly affects acidity
What organ handles long-term acid-base control/ the kidneys, through bicarbonate reabsorption and hydrogen ion secretion.
What causes respiratory acidosis? Hypoventilation leading to CO2 retention and increased acidity.
What causes respiratory alkalosis? Hyperventilation, which decreases CO2 and makes the blood to basic.
How does bicarbonate buffer the blood? It binds excess hydrogen ions to stabalize pH.
What is the main function of the cardiovascular system? To deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues while removing waste products like CO2.
What is stroke volume? The amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle with each heartbeat.
What does heart rate measure? The number of beats per minute, which helps determine overall cardiac output
How does blood pressure relate to cardiac function? It reflects the force of blood against vessel walls, low or high BP affects organ perfusion.
