Anatomy Week 7-13

QuestionAnswer
What is the main function of the lymphatic system? To return excess interstitial fluid to the bloodstream, absorb dietary fats, and provide immune defense.
What are lymph nodes responsible for? Filtering lymph and housing immune cells that destroy pathogens.
What is the role of the spleen? Filters blood, removes old RBCs, and activates immune responses.
What enzyme begins the chemical breakdown of carbohydrates in the mouth? Salivary amylase.
What is peristalsis? Wave-like muscular contractions that move food through the digestive tract.
What is the function of the small intestine? Main site for nutrient digestion and absorption (duodenum, jejunum, ileum).
What are alveoli? Tiny air sacs in the lungs where gas exchange occurs.
Which muscle is primarily responsible for breathing? The diaphragm.
What does ADH (antidiuretic hormone) do? Increases water reabsorption in the kidneys, reducing urine output.
What substances in urine indicate kidney dysfunction? Protein, glucose, blood cells, ketones, and abnormal casts.
