Where does most nutrient absorption occur? The small intestine
What is chyme? A semifluid mixture of partially digested food and gastric juices that leaves the stomach
Where does gas exchange occur? In the alveoli
What is tidal volume? The amount of air moved in or out during normal breathing
What structure filters lymph? Lymph nodes
What is the main function of the lymphatic system? To return excess interstitial fluid to the bloodstream and help defend the body against pathogens
What is the muscular layer of the heart wall? it is called the myocardium
Which valve prevents backflow into the right ventricle? the pulmonary semilunar valve
What are hormones? it is the chemical messengers that transported by blood to target tissues
Which gland produces insulin and glucagon? Pancreas
