somatic nervous system the division of peripheral nervous system that controls the bodys skeletal muscles. Consciously perceived or controlled process.
autonomic nervous system also called autonomic motor or visceral motor system. Processes regulated below conscious level. Transmits signals from CNS to heart, smooth muscle, glands
Endocrine primary function produce hormones; hormones act on specific target cells to produce specific effects, use circulatory system
hormones Chemical messengers produced by endocrine glands; absorbed into blood vessels; only produces effects on cells containing specific receptors
circulatory system job is to get oxygen and nutrients to the body and get rid of carbon dioxide and waste in the body
aorta carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle and will pump this blood to the whole body.
primary function of the lymphatic system production, maintenance, and distribution of blood cells called lymphocytes
secondary function of lymphatic system maintain volume balance between blood and interstitial fluid
primary function of the respiratory system to facilitate gas exchange (O2 & CO2) between the environment and the bodies cells
Function of digestive tract ingestion, mechanical processing, digestion, secretion, absorption, excretion
