Feeding Methods

TermDefinition
Nasogastric Tube Feeding (NGT) A tube that passes through the nose to the stomach
Gastrostomy Tube Feeding (GT) A tube placed directly into the stomach
Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) A specific method of placing a gastrostomy tube
Surgical gastrostomy A method of placing a tube into the stomach via surgery
Jejunostomy Tube Feeding (J-Tube) A tube placed into the jejunum (part of the small intestine)
Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) Nutrition delivered through a central venous catheter that provides complete nutritional support
Peripheral Parenteral Nutrition (PPN) Partial nutritional support delivered through a peripheral vein, used short-term because it cannot handle highly concentrated solutions.
