Hawaii Word Wall

Igneous Rocks that are formed from the cooling and solidification of molten rock.
Extrusive Something that is forced out from the Earth's surface.
Intrusive When magma cools and solidifies deep within the Earth's surface.
Fine Grain Rocks with very small grains that are not easily visible to the eye.
Coarse Grain Mineral crystals large enough to be seen with your eye.
Felsic Igneous rocks and magmas that are rich in silca, aluminum, and potassium, (lighter in color)
Mafic Rich in magnesium and iron (dark colored).
Vesicular Volcanic rocks full of holes which are trapped gas bubbles from magma that expanded and solidified as lava cooled rapidly at the Earth’s surface.
Glassy Rock texture A rock that looks like glass because of extremely rapid cooling, (prevents crystals from forming).
