7th grade Chapter 6
Electicty
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Electric force | the force between charged objects |
| Electric field | a region around a chaged object where the electric force is exerted on other charged objects |
| Static electricity | the buildup of charges on an object |
| Conservation of charge | charges are neither created nor destroyed, only transferred |
| Friction | transfer of electrons from one uncharged object to another by rubbing the objects together |
| Conduction | the transfer of electrons from one object to another through direct contact |
| Induction | redistributing the charges on an object without direct contact |
| Polarization | redistributing the electrons within the individual atoms of an object |
| Static discharge | the loss of static electricity when electric charges transfer from one object to another |
| Electric current | continuoius flow of electric charges through material |
| Electric circuit | a complete unbroken path that charges can flow through |
| Voltage | the difference in electric potential energy per charge between two points in a circuit |
| Parallel circuits | different parts of the circuit are on separate branches, there are several paths for the current to take |
| Series circuits | all parts of the circuit are on one path, there is only one path for the current to take |
| resistance | the measure of how difficult it is for charges to flow through an object |
