| 1. barge | A broad, flat bottomed boat |
| 2. Cartouche | A carved tablet representing a scroll (a roll of paper) with rolled up ends |
| 3. Harpoon | A barbed spear, used for hunting large fish |
| 4. Hieroglyphics | Writing made up of pictographic (picture) symbols |
| 5. Khemet | Ancient Egyptian name for their land (It means “Black Land”) |
| 6. levees | A bank (high pile of dirt) built along a river to prevent flooding |
| 7. Mummification | The process of preserving the bodies of the dead |
| 8. nobles | People belonging to a high class that have special social or political status |
| 9.obelisks | A four-sided pillar that ends in a pyramid, used as a monument |
| 10. papyrus | A plant that is made into strips and pressed into material on which a person can write |
| 11. peasants | People in a low ranking social class, who often worked in the fields |
| 12. Pharaoh | The ruler of ancient Egypt |
| 13. pyramid | A huge structure that was used as a tomb for the Egyptian Pharaoh and high officials |
| 14. shaduf | A bucket device for lifting water from the river |
| 15. Social pyramid | Shows each social class in order of importance |
| 16. sphinx | Ancient Egyptian monument with the body of a lion and the head of a man. It guards the Great Pyramid of Giza |
| 17. vizizer | A high official in the government, usually the advisor to the Pharaoh |
