| Term | Definition |

| Aorta | The biggest artery; carries blood from the heart to the body. |
| Left Ventricle | Pumps oxygen-rich blood out to the body. |
| Right Ventricle | Pumps oxygen-poor blood to the lungs. |
| Left Atrium | Receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs. |
| Right Atrium | Receives oxygen-poor blood from the body. |
| Coronary Artery | Arteries that supply blood to the heart itself. |
| Apex | The tip or bottom point of the heart. |
| Superior Vena Cava | Brings blood from the upper body to the right atrium. |
| Inferior Vena Cava | Brings blood from the lower body to the right atrium. |
| Pulmonary Artery | Carries blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. |
| Pulmonary Veins | Bring oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the left atrium. |
| Cordae Tendinea | “Heart strings” that help heart valves open and close. |
| Papillary Muscles | Muscles that pull on the cordae tendineae to control valves. |
| Septum | Wall that separates the right and left sides of the heart. |
| Tricuspid Valve | Valve between the right atrium and right ventricle. |
| Bicuspid/Mitral Valve | Valve between the left atrium and left ventricle. |
| Aortic Semilunar Valve | Valve between the left ventricle and the aorta. |
| Pulmonary Semilunar Valve | Valve between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery. |
| Brachiocephalic Artery | A big branch off the aorta that supplies the head and right arm. |
| Left Main Coronary Artery | Main artery supplying the left side of the heart. |
| Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery | Supplies the front of the heart. |
| Circumflex Coronary Artery | Supplies the left side and back of the heart. |
| Left Posterior Descending Coronary Artery | Supplies the back/bottom of the left |
| Right Coronary Artery | Supplies blood to the right side of the heart. |
