absolute value the magnitude of a real number without regard to its sign.
additive inverse property for any number, its opposite (its additive inverse) is the value that, when added to the original number, results in a sum of zero
additive inverses numbers that are the same distance from zero on the number line but in opposite directions
distributive property a math rule that lets you multiply a number by a sum (or difference) by multiplying the number by each term inside the parentheses first, then adding (or subtracting) the results
multiplicative identity property any number multiplied by 1 equals that original number
multiplicative property of zero any number multiplied by zero equals zero
opposites the number on the opposite side of zero on a number line that is the same distance away
order of operations a set of rules that determines the correct sequence for evaluating a mathematical expression with multiple operations
