week 14 assignment

What is the basic function of a neuron in nerve signaling? A neuron receives information, processes it, and sends signals to other cells through electrical and chemical messages
What is an action potential? An action potential is a rapid electrical change across a neuron’s membrane that allows a nerve signal to travel along the axon.
Depolarization The phase during nerve signaling when the inside of the neuron becomes less negative because sodium ions rush into the cell.
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) A division of the PNS that controls involuntary body functions such as heart rate, digestion, breathing, and gland activity.
Somatic Nervous System (SNS) The part of the peripheral nervous system that controls voluntary movements by sending signals from the CNS to skeletal muscles.
Sympathetic Division A branch of the autonomic nervous system responsible for the “fight-or-flight” response, preparing the body for stress by increasing heart rate, breathing, and alertness.
The endocrine system produces stress
The nervous and endocrine systems do what? act together to coordinate the functions of all body systems. The nervous system acts through nerve impulses conducted along axons of neurons.
how many times a day does our heart approximately pump? Our heart beats 100,000 times a day
How much does an average human blood pump throughout the body? An average human has around 5 liters (8 pints) of blood, which is constantly pumped throughout the body.
Which parts are the main parts within the circulatory system? The heart, blood, and blood vessels combined are referred to as the circulatory system.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
