QuestionAnswer
What is cardiac output (CO)? The amount of blood the heart pumps in one minute.
What is stroke volume? The amount of blood pushed out of the left ventricle with each heartbeat.
What is systolic pressure? The pressure in arteries when the ventricles contract (the top number of BP).
What is the main muscle used for breathing? The diaphragm, it contracts to pull air into the lungs.
What happens to CO₂ levels during hypoventilation (slow breathing)? CO₂ builds up, which lowers blood pH and causes acidosis.
What is the main buffer system in the blood? he bicarbonate buffer system
What hormone controls water reabsorption in the kidneys? ADH (antidiuretic hormone) it makes the kidneys keep more water.
What do the kidneys do during metabolic acidosis? They save more bicarbonate and get rid of more hydrogen ions
Glomerular filtration The process where fluid and small particles are pushed from the blood into the kidney’s glomerulus to make the first part of urine.
