| Artery | A blood vessel that conducts blood away from the heart. |
| Capillary | The smallest type of blood vessel; site of exchange between blood and surrounding tissues. |
| Blood Pressure | The force exerted by blood on the walls of blood vessels or heart chambers. |
| Pulmonary Circuit | The path of blood flow from the heart → lungs → heart, for gas exchange (oxygen in, CO₂ out). |
| Lymphatic Capillary | Small, thin-walled microvessels that absorb interstitial fluid (becomes lymph) and transport it toward lymphatic vessels. |
| Antigen | A molecule (often on a pathogen) that can be recognized by lymphocyte receptors and trigger an immune response. |
| Respiratory Membrane | The thin barrier composed of alveolar epithelium and capillary endothelium through which gases diffuse during external respiration. |
| Small Intestine | The part of the digestive tract where most chemical digestion and nutrient absorption occurs. |
| Urinary System | The organ system responsible for removing waste products from the blood, regulating fluid balance, electrolytes, and pH. |
| Homeostasis | The maintenance of a stable internal environment (fluid balance, pH, temperature, etc.) in the body. |
