What triggers an action potential? When a neuron reaches threshold and voltage-gated Na* channels open
What structures make up the CNS? Brain and spinal cord
What are the two branches of the ANS? Sympathetic and parasympathetic
Where does most nutrient absorption occur? small intestine, especially the jejunum
What enzyme breaks down fats? Lipase with bile
What is tidal volume? The amount of air inhaled or exhaled during normal breathing
What organ controls the endocrine system? hypothalamus
What is the normal blood pH? 7.35-7.45
What side of the heart pumps oxygenated blood? the left side, sending blood to the body
What is the main function of the lymphatic system? to return excess fluid to the blood circulation and filter pathogens
