heart

TermDefinition
Aorta Aorta is the main artery of the body, supplying oxygenated blood to the circulatory system. In humans it passes over the heart from the left ventricle and runs down in front of the backbone.
Left Ventricle Left Ventricle is the strongest of the heart's four chambers, located on the left side, and its primary function is to pump oxygen-rich blood from the left atrium out to the rest of the body
Right Ventricle Right Ventricle is a chamber of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood from the right atrium and pumps it to the lungs to be oxygenated
Left Atrium Left Atrium is one of the four chambers of the heart that receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it into the left ventricle
Right Atrium Right Atrium is one of the four chambers of the heart, located in the upper right side of the chest
Coronary Artery Coronary Artery is blood vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle
Apex Apex is the highest point of something
Superior Vena Cava Superior Vena Cava is a large vein that carries deoxygenated blood from the upper half of the body—including the head, neck, and arms—to the right atrium of the heart
Inferior Vena Cava Inferior Vena Cava is the largest vein in the human body, responsible for carrying deoxygenated blood from the lower body, abdomen, and pelvis to the right atrium of the heart
Pulmonary Artery Pulmonary Artery is the artery carrying blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs for oxygenation.
Pulmonary Veins Pulmonary Veins is blood vessels that transport oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart
Cordae Tendinea Cordae Tendinea is strong, fibrous cords in the heart that connect the leaflets of the atrioventricular (AV) valves (mitral and tricuspid) to the papillary muscles in the ventricles
Papillary Muscles Papillary Muscles is pillar-like muscles located inside the heart's ventricles that are essential for proper atrioventricular (AV) valve function.
Septum Septum is a dividing wall or membrane, most commonly referring to the nasal septum, the wall of cartilage and bone that separates the left and right nostrils
Tricuspid Valve Tricuspid Valve is one of the four heart valves that directs blood flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle
Bicuspid/Mitral Valve Bicuspid/Mitral Valve is a term used to describe the normal mitral valve, which has two leaflets (cusps) and is sometimes called the bicuspid valve
Aortic Semilunar Valve Aortic Semilunar Valve is a heart valve located between the left ventricle and the aorta that opens to allow oxygenated blood to flow into the aorta and closes to prevent backflow into the left ventricle
Pulmonary Semilunar Valve Pulmonary Semilunar Valve is a one-way valve located between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery
Brachiocephalic Artery Brachiocephalic Artery is a large artery that branches from the aortic arch and supplies blood to the head, neck, and right arm
Left Main Coronary Artery Left Main Coronary Artery is a major artery that supplies oxygen-rich blood to the left side of the heart
Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery is the largest coronary artery and is crucial for supplying blood to the front, bottom, and left side of the heart, including the interventricular septum
Circumflex Coronary Artery Circumflex Coronary Artery is a branch of the left coronary artery that wraps around the left side of the heart, supplying blood to the left atrium, the posterior and lateral walls of the left ventricle, and parts of the left ventricle's papillary muscle
Left Posterior Descending Coronary Artery Left Posterior Descending Coronary Artery is left posterior descending artery
Right Coronary Artery Right Coronary Artery is a blood vessel that branches off the aorta and supplies oxygenated blood to the right side of the heart, including the right atrium and right ventricle
Posterior DescendingCoronary Artery Posterior DescendingCoronary Artery is supplies the posterior third of the interventricular septum and the inferior wall of the left ventricle

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
