QuestionAnswer
What does the nephron do? It filters blood and makes urine.
Where does filtration happen in the kidney? In the glomerulus.
What does ADH do? It helps the kidneys keep water in the body.
What does aldosterone do? it causes the kidneys to save sodium, and water follows.
What does ANP do? It helps the body get rid of extra sodium and water.
What activates the RAAS system? Low blood pressure.
What does angiotensin II do? It raises blood pressure and makes you thirsty.
How does alcohol affect ADH? It blocks ADH, causing more urination and dehydration.
What is tidal volume? The air you breathe in or out during a normal breath.
What is vital capacity? the most air you can blow out after a deep breath in.
Where does gas exchange happen in the lungs? In the alveoli.
What does surfactant do? It keeps the alveoli from collapsing.
What muscle is most important for breathing? The diaphragm.
What happens to chest pressure during inhalation? It goes down, allowing air to flow in.
What is emphysema? A lung disease where the alveoli break down and trap air.
What is peristalsis? Wavelike movements that push food through the digestive tract.
Where is most nutrient absorption done? In the small intestine.
What is the main job of the large intestine? To absorb water and form stool.
What immune cells “eat” bacteria and debris? Macrophages.
What is the purpose of inflammation? To protect the body and start healing.
