QuestionAnswer
water cycle Movement of water between the atmosphere
evaporation when liquid water changes into water vapor which is a gas
transpiration This release of water vapor into the air by plants is called transpiration
sublimation Sublimation can happen when dry air blows over ice or snow, where it is very cold and the pressure is low
condensation condensation is the change of states from a gas to a liquid
precipitation precipitation is any form of water that falls to earth's surface from the clouds
weather Weather is the condition of Earth's atmosphere at a certain time and place
humidity Humidity as more water evaporates and becomes water vapor, the humidity of the air incrases
relative humidity Relative humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air compared to the amount of water vapor needed to reach
dew point dew point is the temperature at which more condensation than evaporation occurs
air pressure air pressure is the force of air molecules pushing on an area
wind the greater the differences in air pressure the faster the air moves
visibility visibility is a measure of the transparency of the atmosphere
air mass air mass is a large volume if air in which temperature and moisture content are nearly the same throughout
front A cool air mass is denser than a warm air masses a boundary form between the air masses
jet stream A long-distance wind that travels above global winds for thousands of kilometers
thunderstorm Is an intense local storm that forms strong winds, heavy rain, lightning, thunder, and sometimes hail.
lightning lightning is an electric discharge that happens between a positively charged are and a negaely charged area
thunder A loud rumbling or crashing noise heard after a lightning flash due to the expansion of rapidly heated air.
hurricane A hurricane is tropical low-preassure system with winds blowing at speeds of 119 km (74 mi/h) or more-strong
storm surge When a hurricane moves into a coastal area, it also pushes a huge mass of ocean water.
tornado A tornado is destructive, rotating column of air that has very high wind speeds and that is something visible as a funnel-shaped
sinkhole are holes in the ground when a cave collapse
wildfire are uncontrolled fire burning in natural areas
muck fire usually occur during the dry season or droughts, when the soil in swamps and marshes is dry
climate describes the weather conditions in an area over a long period of time.
latitude is the angular distance in degrees north and south from the equator
topography the surface features of an area combine to form
elevation refers to the height of an area above sea level
surface currents are driven by winds and carry warm water away from the equator and carry cool water away from the poles
