| khemet | ancient Egyptian name for their land (It means ''black land'') |
| nobles | People belong to a high class that have special social or political status |
| mummification | The process of preserving the bodies of the dead |
| papyrus | A plant is made into strips and pressed into material on which a person can write |
| obelisks | A four sided pillar that ends in a pyramid used as a monument |
| pharaoh | The ruler of ancient Egypt |
| peasants | people in a low ranking social class who often worked in the fields |
| shaduf | A bucket device for lifting water from the river |
| pyramid | A huge structure that was used as a tomb for the Egyptian pharaoh and high officials |
| sphinx | Ancient Egyptian monument with the body of a lion and the head of a man. It guards the great pyramid of giza |

| vizier | A high official in the government usually the adviser to the pharaoh |
