Wildlife Vocabulary
| species | A group of living organisms that share similar characteristics and can produce offspring together. |
| endangered | At risk of becoming extinct; in danger of disappearing. |
| habitat | The natural home or environment where a plant or animal lives. |
| population | The number of individuals of a particular species living in one area. |
| conservation | The protection and management of natural resources, including wildlife and habitats. |
| ecosystem | A community of living organisms and the environment they interact with (plants, animals, soil, water, climate). |
| biodiversity | The variety of different species in a particular area or in the world. |
| monitoring | Regularly observing, measuring, or tracking something—in this case, wildlife populations. |
| survey | A method of collecting data by observing or counting animals in their environment. |
| wildlife | Animals living in the wild, not domesticated or kept by humans. |
