| Nerve Signaling | Process by which nerve cells (neurons) transmit electrical disturbances from one point to another within the body |
| Central Nervous System (CNS) | The part of the nervous system consisting of the brain and spinal cord |
| Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) | The division of the nervous system outside of the brain and spinal cord |
| Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) | A division of the PNS that controls involuntary motor commands |
| General Senses | Sensory modalities processed by the nervous system that are widely istributed throughout the body |
| Special Senses | Senses that have specialized organs dedicated to them |
| Endocrine Regulation | Control of body functions by hormones secreted into the bloodstream by endocrine glands; regulates many slower, long-term processes |
| Endocrine Glands | Glands of the endocrine system that secrete hormones directly into the blood rather than through ducts |
| Hemostasis | The physiological process the body uses to stop bleeding after blood vessel injury |
| Cardiac Conduction System | The cardiac conduction system is a specialized network of the heart's pacemaker cells |
