| Term | Definition |

| Organizational Structure | How a hospital or clinic is set up — who is in charge, who reports to who, and how work gets done |
| Mission | The hospital's main purpose — why it exists. Example: "To care for patients with compassion." |
| Vision | What the hospital wants to become in the future. Example: "To be the best hospital in the region." |
| Values | The rules and beliefs a hospital follows to guide behavior. Example: honesty, respect, caring. |
| Human Dignity | Treating every patient like they matter — with respect, kindness, and privacy. |
| Integrity | Doing the right thing even when no one is watching. |
| Altruism | Putting others first and caring for people without expecting anything in return |
| Justice | Being fair to everyone — treating all patients equally. |
| Empathy | Understanding how someone else feels and showing that you care. |
| Collaborative Practice | Working together with the healthcare team — nurses, doctors, therapists — to give the best care. Always include patient at bedside. |
| Health | A person's overall well-being — physical, mental, and social. |
| Health Policy | The rules, laws, and decisions that shape how healthcare works. |
| Health Promotion | Activities that help people stay healthy or improve health. Example: teaching about diet, exercise, screening |
| Health Literacy | How well a patient can understand health information and use it to make decisions. |
| Self-Determination | The patient's right to make their own choices about their care. |
| Nonmaleficence | "Do no harm."Avoid causing injury or unnecessary suffering. |
| Beneficence | "Do good."Act in the patient's best interest and help them. |
| Justice | (Fairness in healthcare)Making sure all patients get fair, equal treatment. |
| Moral Courage | Doing the right thing, even when it is hard, uncomfortable, or risky. |
| Vulnerable Populations | Populations Groups of people who need extra care or support because they are at higher risk for poor health. Examples: elderly, homeless, low-income, children, people with disabilities. |
| Self-Care | Things you do to take care of your own physical and mental health. Example: rest, hydration, stress relief, asking for help. |
| Health Promotion | Helping people improve their health and prevent disease. Eating healthy , exercising, etc. |
| Emotional intelligence | Knowing your emotions + Controlling your emotions + Understanding other people's emotions. |
| Examples of Reflective Practice | Reflective practice = thinking about your actions to grow as a nurse. Journaling, seeking feedback, self evaluations |
| Nurses role in health literacy | writing letters to the city council ,seminars |
| Culture sensitivity | Respecting and understanding the patients' beliefs, values, languages, and traditions. |
| Autonomy | The patient's right to make their own decisions about their health. Nurses must respect those decisions. A patient refuses a vaccine, and the nurse respects their choice. |
