TermDefinition
Nerve Signaling The process by which neurons communicate using electrical and chemical signals.
Ligand-Gated Ion Channel A protein channel that opens when a chemical binds, allowing ions to pass through the cell membrane.
Central Nervous System The brain and spinal cord; responsible for processing information and sending commands.
Autonomic Nervous System The part of the peripheral nervous system that controls involuntary functions like heart rate and digestion.
Endocrine Glands Glands that release hormones into the bloodstream to regulate body functions.
Pulmonary Circulation Blood flow from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation and back to the heart.
Systemic Circulation Blood flow from the heart to the body to deliver oxygen and nutrients.
Lymphatic System A network of vessels and nodes that helps maintain fluid balance and defend against pathogens.
Gas Exchange The process of oxygen entering the blood and carbon dioxide leaving the blood in the lungs.
Fat Absorption The process of transporting dietary fats from the small intestine to the lymphatic system.
