Impact V. To have a strong effect on something or someone It made a huge impact on my grades
Reference V. To mention or bring attention to The reference were obvious
Alliteration When the same sound appears at the beginning of the words in a sentence. Sally sells seashells at the sea store
Allusion A figure of speech in which a writer makes a reference to something famous/well-known We couldnt find him, maybe he's Nemo
Hyperbole Exaggeration to drive a point It was obviously a hyperbole
Imagery N. Language that appeals to the reader to help imagine it They wrote amazing imagery
Metaphor Compares 2 different things without using like or as
Onomatopoeia A sound written in word form Boom!
Personification To give human characteristics on inanimate objects, animals, or ideas
Simile Compares 2 different things with using like or as Sophie is like a calculator
Credible N. Reliable/trustworthy The source is credible
Relevant Evidence N. Facts, Details, examples, etc. that support the writers reasoning I dont think that she used a lot of relevant evidence
Mal- Bad, ill, wrong The malnutrition in the sand was horrendous
Para- Beside, alongside The paragraph was way too short
Permit V. Allow They got a permit to be here!
Release N/V. Let go or set free/act of letting go. Release the cows, they need more space
Contact N/V Connection/Act of getting in touch with another I wanted to get in contact with her
Covetous Adj. Greedy and jealous. She is really covetous
Morose Adj. Gloomy, ill-tempered He is morose
Resolute Adj. Determined I am resolute for my goals
Impossible Adj. Unreasonable This is impossible!
Malcontent N. Person who is always unhappy They are so malcontent
Miser N. Greedy person who doesn't spend money She is a miser, don't help her.
Parallel Adj. having the same direction or nature The lines are parallel to eachothers
Altered Adj. Changed She is an altered person, I swear!
Dispelled V. Driven away She is dispelled
Strive V. Make a great effort She made a great strive for it
Earnest Adj. Serious and heartfelt; not joking He was earnest about it
Infinitely Adv. Enormously, remarkably I love you infinitely!!
